Dunkeswell Raceway hosted Round 2 of the British Kart Championship last weekend – and what an absolute show it was! The full circus that is the British Kart Championship rolled into Devon, and WOW, do they know how to put on an event. Saturday was all about practice and timed sessions, and the Devon sunshine came out in full force. I was resplendent in my bright pink tabard – a temporary addition for the weekend, and also lightened my wallet by many £'s, but absolutely worth every penny. Camera in hand, I was ready to go! The paddock was packed. A vibrant sea of colourful awnings, frantic mechanics, focused drivers, parents, and support crews – all making last-minute adjustments and offering those crucial words of encouragement. The buzz was electric. Sunday brought more of the same energy, although this time with a twist – showers were expected, and oh yes, they arrived! A proper downpour rolled in during the morning, creating some real drama as karts shod with dry tyres were suddenly forced to cope with full wet conditions. The next group were able to go out on wets, sending up plumes of spray, but soon a dry line began to form. The conditions made for some fantastic action – and some even better photos. I captured some cracking shots of karts powering through the spray – all four tyres kicking up mist. It was karting theatre. Classes, Competition and Champions Every class delivered edge-of-the-seat action with bumper-to-bumper battles, tactical racecraft, and skill levels that were simply jaw-dropping. These drivers – many still in the early stages of their careers – showed maturity and race discipline well beyond their years. Micromax – The youngest racers on the grid, but make no mistake – the racing was no less intense. Huge congrats to Dhian Singh Pahal, who took the win with incredible consistency and composure. MiniMax 950 – This class delivered some truly exciting scraps throughout the field. Hats off to Emerson MacAndrew-Uren, who came out on top in a very competitive group. Junior Rotax – One of the most hotly contested categories all weekend, with overtakes at every opportunity and barely a few seconds separating the front runners. Cameron Nelson took a hard-earned victory after some fierce racing. Senior Rotax – Experience, pace, and racecraft were all on full display. Harry Bartle emerged victorious in what was easily one of the tightest and most exhilarating classes of the weekend. KZ2 – The sound, the speed, the skill… this is karting at its most extreme. Standing starts, sequential gearboxes and elite-level driving. Ella Stevens dominated the category with sheer pace and flawless execution. A class act! Every race across the weekend was a pleasure to witness and be a part of. This really is another level of karting, and I’m so glad I got to experience it. The media pass was money very well spent. Huge credit must go to everyone involved – the British Kart Championship organisers, the DKC team, and most of all the drivers and their crews. Dunkeswell looked immaculate and was the perfect venue for a championship round of this calibre. I’ve got a gallery full of images from an exceptional weekend – and I’m already wondering where the circus will take me next! 👉 Click here to view the gallery from BKC Round 2 at Dunkeswell
