What a weekend that was! The 2025 MSUK Super K-X Championship rolled into Dunkeswell Raceway for its opening round, and from start to finish, it delivered everything you could ask for in a motorsport event – glorious weather, fiercely competitive racing, and a venue that truly showcases the best of grassroots karting in the UK.
Spring seemed to arrive right on cue, with unseasonably warm temperatures and clear skies bathing the circuit in golden light – a photographer’s dream. For once, we weren't dodging showers or hiding under gazebos. Instead, it was sunhats, sunglasses, and shutter-clicks all weekend long.
On track, the action was relentless. The grids were packed, the gaps between drivers barely measurable, and overtakes were happening everywhere you looked. Getting individual shots of racers proved near impossible – they were that tightly bunched! But in return, I captured some stunning imagery of wheel-to-wheel duels and group battles that told the true story of how competitive this championship is right across the classes.
If you’ve never been to Dunkeswell Raceway, make sure you put it on your list. Nestled at the top of the Blackdown Hills, it’s a gem of a circuit with brilliant facilities for both competitors and spectators. From the hard-standing perimeter path to the elevated viewing terrace, there’s not a bad spot to watch the racing from. The on-site restaurant is clean, welcoming, and offers panoramic views of the track. Plus, the live timing screens dotted throughout the building mean you’ll never miss a lap or an update.
It was clear just how well supported this event – and this venue – is. Drivers came from all corners of the UK, from the seasoned veterans to the youngest newcomers just starting their journey. Dunkeswell always brings in a strong field, and the buzz around the paddock was electric from the moment I arrived on Saturday morning right through to the podium celebrations on Sunday afternoon.
And speaking of podiums – huge congratulations to the drivers who stood tallest on Sunday: Charlie Page, Austin Oman, Ellis Bell, and Mattie Hingeley – each one taking the top step in their respective classes after some seriously hard-fought races. A well-deserved shout-out to all of them!
This was more than just a race meeting – it was a celebration of karting at its best. A brilliant venue, a passionate crowd, and non-stop action on track. Round 1 has set the bar incredibly high. Roll on Round 2 – if it’s anything like this weekend, we’re in for a treat.
To relive the event, head over to my Galleries (link below) to view images from both Saturday and Sunday. As usual, I’ll be adding to these galleries until I’m satisfied with my representation of the weekend. If you’re looking for a specific image—whether by class, kart number, or driver name—please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I may have exactly what you’re looking for!
