An early start doesn’t quite cover it—on the road by 2:00am, bound for Bala and the 2025 Plains Rally. After signing on just before 7am, it was straight out to Alwen for my only stage. Clear skies, crisp air set the tone. It was the kind of morning photographers dream of—if you could find the right spot. The first location looked promising but didn’t quite deliver. With dust hanging in the air and shooting angles limited. After the first dozen cars, I moved over up the bank for a higher perspective—and it paid of. The reward? A near perfect view and a lucky break with the breeze carrying the dust across the stage rather than through my lens, conditions quickly turned almost ideal. Classic rally images: cars fully committed, sliding through loose gravel, sunlight piercing through clouds of dust.Note to self: must scout stage access a bit better next time! That said, it worked out—cars dancing sideways through the dust, sunlight slicing through the haze. A dream for any lens. Captured a decent set of shots in the end, and the atmosphere made the lack of sleep feel worth it. A full day in every sense, but one packed with the sights, sounds, and spirit that makes Welsh rallying so special. After a long return drive back to Devon, I wrapped up a demanding but rewarding day behind the lens. You can view a full gallery from the event Plains Rally 2025
