Thursday, 11th September 2025 marked a truly special occasion at Dunkeswell Raceway, as the circuit hosted its first-ever Women’s Sprint 20 race — a historic event celebrating female karters in Devon and women’s karting in the UK. A landmark moment for the venue nestled high on the stunning Blackdown Hills.
Under the warm glow of a typical late summer evening, 12 determined karters lined up to make history. The event format featured a 15-minute combined practice and qualifying session, followed by an exciting 20-lap race — the perfect blend of preparation, pace, and pure racing spirit.
As engines fired up and nerves began to settle, the atmosphere quickly shifted from anticipation to adrenaline. The practice and qualifying sessions showcased some excellent driving and close lap times, setting the tone for what would become a thrilling main event.
When the lights went out, the 20-lap race delivered enthralling battles throughout the field, with each driver showing impressive skill and determination. From smooth overtakes to strategic defence, it was a fantastic showcase of talent and sportsmanship.
After an action-packed run to the flag, the inaugural podium was as follows:
🥇 1st – Hannah Lowe (Kart 19)
🥈 2nd – Anna Brown (Kart 23)
🥉 3rd – Liberty Ruddick (Kart 13)
A huge congratulations to all the competitors who took part, and to everyone who made this event possible. The Women’s Sprint 20 not only celebrated racing talent but also marked an inspiring step forward for inclusivity and participation at Dunkeswell Raceway.
It was a pleasure to capture such a memorable evening — the first of many, we hope — a milestone that will surely inspire more women to get behind the wheel.
