Thick fog blanketed Dunkeswell Raceway throughout the day as the 2026 Rental Championship Round 1 brought a large field of drivers to the circuit. Visibility was extremely limited, creating a unique and atmospheric setting for the event as karts emerged from the mist before disappearing back into the fog around the circuit. Despite the challenging conditions, the strong entry list ensured a full day of competitive on-track action.
Conditions throughout the day were extremely foggy, with visibility very limited around the circuit. From the first corner it was barely possible to see the start/finish line, and spectators in the terraced viewing area could often only be seen as silhouettes through the thick fog. The flat grey light made photography particularly challenging, but working from various areas of the circuit depending on what I could see, I made the best of the conditions during a very atmospheric day at the raceway.
With such a strong entry list, the event featured Five timed qualifying sessions, split into two weight groups – Lightweight and Heavyweight. Drivers pushed hard throughout the sessions to secure the best possible times in the tricky low-visibility conditions.
Despite the fog, Once the races got underway the action quickly delivered close battles and exciting racing across the field. Drivers traded positions throughout the heats with several strong overtakes and defensive drives keeping spectators entertained.
The 'A' final races of the day produced some excellent competition, with drivers pushing hard right to the chequered flag.
